概要
セント・ジョン・ザ・ディヴァイン大聖堂の所在地は、マンハッタンのモーニングサイド・ハイツ地区、西110丁目と113丁目の間のアムステルダム・アベニューである。
この聖堂は1888年に設計され、1892年に建設が始まった。幾度となく大きな設計変更が行われ、二度の世界大戦による建設の中断もあり、現在も建築中である。完成すると世界最大のゴシック大聖堂となる（現在はセビリア大聖堂が世界最大のゴシック大聖堂）。また、この大聖堂は、リバプール大聖堂 (en) と聖公会の聖堂および教会の中で最大の座を争っている[1]。この聖堂はまた、世界で4番目に大きいキリスト教教会でもある[2]。建物の内部の敷地面積はテンプレート:Convert/sqftであり、長さは601 ft (183.2 meters) および高さは 232 ft (70.7 meters) である。身廊の内部の高さは124 feet (37.8 meters) である。
元々はビザンティン・リヴァイヴァル-ロマネスク・リヴァイヴァル様式で設計されたが、1909年以降にはゴシック・リヴァイヴァル様式に設計変更された[2][3]。2001年12月18日の大火事の後、修復のために一時閉鎖され、2008年11月に再開された.[2]。この聖堂は未だ未完成であり、建設および改修は現在も続いている[2][3]。その結果、この聖堂はよく未完成のセント・ジョン (St. John the Unfinished) とあだ名される[4]。
