ジョン・H・ホランド

ジョン・ヘンリー・ホランド（英: John Henry Holland、1929年2月2日 - 2015年8月9日）は、アメリカ合衆国の科学者であり、ミシガン大学で心理学、電気工学、計算機科学の教授を務めた。複雑系と非線形科学の先駆的研究で知られている。また、遺伝的アルゴリズムの生みの親でもある。

経歴

1929年、インディアナ州フォートウェインに生まれた。マサチューセッツ工科大学で物理学を学び、1950年に学士号を取得。ミシガン大学で数学を学び、1954年に修士号を取得。1959年、ミシガン大学初の計算機科学の博士号を取得した。ミシガン大学で、心理学と電気工学/計算機科学の教授を務めた。

ミシガン大学の The Center for the Study of Complex Systems (CSCS) のメンバーであり、サンタフェ研究所の Board of Trustees and Science Board のメンバーであった。

マッカーサー・フェローシップを受けており、世界経済フォーラムのフェローにもなっている。

業績

ホランドは、頻繁に世界中を回って、複雑適応系(CAS)について講演/講義を行った。1975年、遺伝的アルゴリズムに関する画期的な著書 "Adaptation in Natural and Artificial Systems" を書いた。また、ホランドのスキーマ定理も生み出した。
